Activity level then and now

Activity level then vs now

One thing that always gets me when I speak with people at work, at hockey, ball or at events about fitness, health and nutrition is how dis engaged they can be with their own way of life. They just coast through the motions. By doing so you can always generally get an idea why they struggle with fitness and health. I have a coworker who weighs himself every day and is exactly the same weight since I noticed him doing it a year ago.  Not 1 pound lost. Probably gained weight to be honest. Yet he checks every day like its changing. It makes me wonder what he has done over the last year to see a difference in the number. But that’s a lot of how most people are. They keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result, when in reality you need to be constantly improving on yesterdays effort to strive for progress.

Far too many people are unhappy with their health, weight, strength and body yet they have no passion at all for change or to put in the actually progressive work to make it happen.

Sure, I am no saint when I look back at how far of come, but that’s just it. I’ve come along way. I have always had a burning passion for the improvement process. Whether I sabotaged it or not along the way it’s about getting back on track, It’s about progressive improvement daily. Even if it’s only .00001 of a percent each day. But you have to be improving to see change.

I have found for personal growth you must do more and more of what moves you towards your goals with a plan for constant improvement. Only then over time will you see change. The things you do and the habits you have now are not the same ones that will continue to help progress in the future. They will be ever changing and more.

As people get older, they seem to do the opposite. They do less! When we were kids, we would get up and play, then play some more, then continue playing, then go to school, then when home play some more until you were out of breath at 8 pm at night and still not want to call it a day no matter how much your parents pushed you. We had a passion for our hobbies and life. Why do people change as they grow to adults? Kids seem to always want to do more with the time they have and never want the sun to go down.

Using excuses like our own kids, work, bills, stress, relationships and “life” and many others as why we eat crappy, don’t exercise and are miserable with life has got to be the new human vitim hood statement. When it should be no different than when you were a kid. You should be putting in the effort to improve your life to make it as fun as possible and live with vitality while enjoying the PROCESS every day.

Coming home and watching 4 hours of TV is the norm in this day and age and people wonder why they have no time to pursue passions like health and fitness or to get ahead in aspects of their lives they may neglect. True life balance is so important yet as we grow older we lose that passion we had as kids to have a balanced life.

Since truly committing to my health, fitness and nutrition my activity level has climbed to what people may call insane. But I wouldn’t want it any other way now. Because of that commitment my energy as sky rocketed. My schedule looks like that of a top performing CEO. I get up, do a morning workout at 530 am with my amazing wife, enjoy some personal development in the morning with instruction/inspiring audio while on my commute to work. I then put in a 8.5 hour grind at the office, where I am responsible for leading over 50 direct reports. I then come home do a 2 hour workout of calisthenics, plus free weight work some cardio and stretching. I then make a nutritious huge dinner ( vegan ) as we cook at home each and every night. I then take left overs for work the next day with me to avoid eating crap food at the local Mcdonalds. I then spend time with my dog and wife, do 30 minutes of reading, then work on my two, yes two personal businesses. I then call it a night at 10:30 pm and do it all over again. I continue to add to my daily list while removing the Bs as much as possible. Drama, TV, news, anything I don’t deem as value added to my life and activities. These are not tasks that would help me achieve my goals.

By doing this and enjoying the process, I have added so much value into my daily activity log and have improved every day. That’s all you can pursue in your process. Sure some days I will fall off the rails, as I am human. But I will always take note and push on. Go back to when you were a kid or if you have your own, see how they do each day with drive passion and fun. That’s how we as adults should be living each day pursueing our goals with relentless passion while striving to be better than we were yesterday. Commit to be better then the average tv watching couch potato.
